For Guitars for little hands, there's nothing better out there than the Loog.  They are actually real high quality instruments that are shrunk down and made with only 3 strings instead of 6.  They include really entertaining and engaging apps that show you how to tune it and play simple songs.  The acoustic mini's for 3 year olds start under $100 and I've had just as much fun playing with it as my daughter.  They also make electric versions and slightly larger sizes for 6+ and 9+ year olds.
